Rome Memorial Hospital’s inpatient psychiatric program for adults is an acute, short-term program for people ages 65 and older who need 24 hour care in a secure, therapeutic environment.  Admission requires an acute psychiatric diagnosis accompanied by severe symptoms, which can include, but not limited to, one or more of the following: 

suicidal behavior and/or threats, assaultive behavior, acute depressive episodes, confusion/disorientation that interferes with safe living, sleep and/or eating disturbances, severe agitation/aggressiveness, medication complications and psychotic behaviors.  

 

 

  • An 11 bed acute geriatric psychiatric inpatient unit
  • Serving the geriatric patient 65 years of age or older who is experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis
  • Accepting admissions 7 days per week, 24 hours per day with easy access
  • Average length of stay is 7 – 10 days depending on diagnosis and treatment regimen
  • Ability to take voluntary and involuntary admissions
  • Treatment provided by:

Psychiatrist, Geriatrician, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Social Workers, Certified Recreational Therapist

  • RN services 24 hours per day
  • Social work services including Comprehensive Discharge Planning
  • Family education and support
  • 5 hours of treatment groups and activities per day:

Group & Individual Psychotherapy, Life Skills, Music, Reminiscing, Nutrition, Exercise, Arts & Crafts, Relaxation, Stress Management

  • Daily visiting hours
  • In-services and educational benefits for community agencies
